Senior Accountant

Scope of Work

The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting carried out in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Other responsibilities include cash management, balance sheet reconciliations, fixed asset management, and processing payroll. Functional Responsibilities

  • Oversees Cash Management activities: daily bank review, bank transfers, enters electronic receipts, processes daily cash receipts.
  • Responsible for the payroll process, including quarterly payroll taxes and annual W2s.
  • Reconciles checking and investment accounts and prepares any adjusting entries needed.
  • Responsible for fixed asset records, depreciation, and reporting.
  • Performs monthly general ledger reconciliations for various accounts.
  • Prepares and posts recurring and periodic adjustments to the accounting records.
  • Performs reconciliations of program records and reports to financial accounting records.
  • Collects, researches, analyzes, and reports various financial data as needed.
  • Assists with the preparation of work papers for annual audit and works with outside auditing firm to complete the annual audit.
  • Assists with the financial aspects of fundraising events and subsequent reconciliations.
  • Assists in a wide variety of special projects and compiles a variety of special reports.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • Three years of experience in an accounting position.
  • Experience with payroll processing, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, perform multiple tasks, meet deadlines, identify, and resolve problems, and coordinate efforts with other staff members.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to see correlations between specific transactions and summary reports.
  • Ability to identify and correct errors & omissions through a review of accounting ledgers, balances and summary reports.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Positive attitude, solution-oriented and willingness to collaborate with team members and agency staff to identify issues and develop solutions.
  • Sensitivity to cultural and personal differences.
  • Have access to a reliable vehicle, a valid AZ Driver’s License, current insurance, and a driving record that is supported by our liability insurance provider.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in nonprofit accounting.
  • Experience with Accounting Software (Abila MIP).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to ten-key by touch.

Compensation

Exempt salary ranges from $56,871 – $71,089 annually

Physical Requirements

This job is a Sedentary Work position, as defined by the Social Security Administration, CFR. CFR § 404.1567.

Physical exertion requirements: (a) Sedentary work. Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.
