Landscaping and Maintenance Technician
Scope of Work
The Landscaping and Maintenance Technician performs routine landscaping at properties and assists with routine repairs and maintenance on the apartment units owned by SAAF. The Landscaping and Maintenance Technician is a full-time (40 hours/week), nonexempt position and may require occasional evening and weekend assignments. This position reports to the Property Planning and Maintenance Manager. Duties include but are not limited to:
Functional Responsibilities
- Performs general groundskeeping duties and lawn maintenance including mowing, raking, mulching, weeding, fertilizing, edging, planting, and pruning.
- Inspects and performs maintenance on irrigation systems at properties owned by SAAF.
- Assists with servicing property pools, which includes cleaning and monitoring chemical levels.
- Renovates and updates units between tenants, including necessary repairs and cleaning.
- Assists with repairs, including but not limited to, painting, rough carpentry and sheetrock repair, electrical and plumbing repair, window and screen repairs, and other duties as assigned.
- Generates work orders when requested by residents for repairs or maintenance issues.
- Communicates with residents and staff in a respectful, confidential, and professional manner.
- Maintains stock room and landscaping supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience with a variety of hand tools and maintenance equipment including clippers, chain saws, lawnmowers, blowers, edgers, rakes, and hedge trimmers.
- Experience with maintaining and servicing irrigation systems.
- Residential property maintenance experience and/or experience in specific trades, such as, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, landscaping.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation, to include, but not limited to, lifting to/from auto to a cart, dolly, vehicle or shelf: occasional lifting above 50 pounds, to only be done with accommodation, in the form of another person or supportive equipment such as a back brace or dolly.
- Ability to climb 2-story ladders.
- Appropriate fingerprint clearance through the Arizona Department of Public Safety (paid for by SAAF).
- Must have a reliable vehicle, a valid AZ Driver’s License, current insurance and a driving record that will be supported by our liability insurance provider.
- Ability to operate a long bed ½ ton Chevrolet Truck with a 10 ft landscaping trailer.
- Good interpersonal skills; sensitivity to cultural and personal diversity.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a non-profit environment.
- Irrigation system experience and knowledge.
- Pima County Health Department Swimming Pool Operator’s Certification (which can be obtained with SAAF’s financial support following employment if not already in place).
- HVAC Certified (which can be obtained with SAAF’s financial support following employment if not already in place).
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
Compensation
Non-Exempt $16.95 – $20.76/hr DOE

Eleven (11) paid holidays, two (2) half day paid holidays, one (1) paid floating holiday, twenty (20) days of paid vacation per year to start, in addition to 40 hours of sick leave. This job is a Medium Work position, as defined by the Social Security Administration, CFR. CFR § 404.1567.
Physical exertion requirements: (c) Medium work. Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work.
