Custodian
Scope of Work
The Custodian will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards at SAAF facilities. The Custodian is a full-time (40 hours/week), non-exempt position. This position reports to the Operations Associate. This position must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, late nights, weekends, and some holidays.
Functional Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning tasks to ensure a clean and sanitary environment in SAAF facilities. This includes, but is not limited to, dusting, mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, and disinfecting surfaces.
- Collect and dispose of trash and recycling materials.
- Check the condition of restrooms regularly and update logs.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and ensure supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper are adequately stocked.
- Clean windows, glass doors, and partitions to ensure a clear and polished appearance.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen and break rooms, including countertops, sinks, appliances, and refrigerators. Restock supplies as needed.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and place orders as needed.
- Move between facilities to perform duties and restock cleaning supplies.
- Will use the ticketing system to be assigned non-regular tasks in addition to regular duties.
- Clean laundry facilities at four SAAF owned or operated apartment complexes.
- Assist with cleaning duties for apartment turns, as needed.
- Deep cleaning when scheduled.
- Occasional special event clean up.
- Will use floor buffer and power washer on occasion.
- May infrequently assist Operations to assemble furniture.
Minimum Qualifications
- Prior janitorial or custodial work in facilities, medical or health care environment is required, can be for a private company or service.
- Appropriate fingerprint clearance through the Arizona Department of Public Safety (paid for by SAAF).
- Good interpersonal skills; sensitivity to cultural and personal diversity.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work, perform multiple tasks, meet deadlines, identify and resolve problems, and coordinate efforts with other staff members.
- Basic computer skills to navigate a ticketing system and online supply orders.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation, to include, but not limited to, lifting to/from auto to a cart, dolly, vehicle or shelf: occasional lifting above 50 pounds, to only be done with accommodation, in the form of another person or supportive equipment such as a back brace or dolly.
- Must have a reliable vehicle, a valid AZ Driver’s License, current insurance, and a driving record that will be supported by our liability insurance provider.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with professional cleaning through a licensed company is preferred.
- Experience working in a non-profit environment.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals including volunteers, staff members, clients, and the general public.
Compensation
Non-Exempt. Salary ranges from $16.30 – $19.96/hr

Eleven (11) paid holidays, two (2) half day paid holidays, one (1) paid floating holiday, twenty (20) days of paid vacation per year to start, in addition to 40 hours of sick leave. Physical Requirements
This job is a Medium Work position, as defined by the Social Security Administration, CFR. CFR § 404.1567. Physical exertion requirements:
(c) Medium work. Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work.
