Accounting Associate

Scope of Work

The Accounting Associate is responsible for processing a variety of accounting transactions and information and other administrative functions. The Accounting Associate position is a full-time, 40 hours/week non-exempt position, which may include some weekends. The Accounting Associate reports to the Controller. Duties include but are not limited to:

Functional Responsibilities

  • Maintains accounts, records, reconciliations, and contractual documents.
  • Backup for accounts payable, payroll, etc. as needed.
  • Enters physical and digital cash receipts into the accounting database.
  • Enters credit card transactions and performs monthly reconciliation.
  • Prepares backup and various worksheets and schedules needed for monthly billings.
  • Prepares and posts recurring and periodic adjustments to the accounting records.
  • Performs monthly reconciliations for various bank and general ledger accounts.
  • Performs research and prepares reports as needed.
  • Responsible for maintenance and management of vendor records.
  • Secures gift cards, facilitates check in/out, and maintains inventory records.
  • Performs audits of petty cash, cash receipts, and Buyer’s Club.
  • Performs administrative duties ( bank runs, errands, etc).
  • Responsible for annual 1099 Form information and filing.
  • Assists in the preparation of work papers for annual audit.
  • Assists with financial aspects of fundraising events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • (2) Two years of experience performing accounting functions.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, perform multiple tasks, meet deadlines, identify, and resolve problems and coordinate work efforts with other staff members.
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail who can work autonomously.
  • Strong experience in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills; sensitivity to cultural and personal diversity.
  • Have access to reliable transportation, a valid AZ Driver’s License, current insurance, and a driving record that will be supported by our liability insurance provider.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Experience with payroll processing and reports.
  • Knowledge and experience in nonprofit accounting.
  • Ability to ten-key by touch.

Compensation

Non-Exempt Salary ranges from $19.77 – $24.22/hr DOE

Eleven (11) paid holidays, two (2) half day paid holidays, one (1) paid floating holiday, twenty (20) days of paid vacation per year to start, in addition to 40 hours of sick leave. Physical Requirements

This job is a Sedentary Work position, as defined by the Social Security Administration, CFR. CFR § 404.1567.

Physical exertion requirements: (a) Sedentary work. Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.
